Portugal Day is the national day in Portugal, also known as Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities. This is a national holiday in Portugal, meaning that shops are closed.
Since this is a national holiday, you will lots of additional programs, exhibitions, and events happening throughout Lisbon. Many people use this day to meet with friends and celebrate together. There are also military parades, fireworks, and concerts arranged in Lisbon.
The day is held in remembrance of the poet Luís de Camões who died on June 10th in 1580. He is a poet who wrote a very popular poem about the greatness of Portugal during its glory during his days of living.
